Yes the proportions are goofy but such is the style. Next we’ll look at the MicroFighters Series 7 version that came our around the time of Episode IX. L to R: 30279 Polybag, Series 7 MicroFighter, and 30380 Polybag

It even has what I think is a tiny hatch for “passengers.” And kudos for getting the moving arms right – I can forgive the lack of telescoping / retractability on something this size. If you’ve seen an Upsilon-class shuttle before, you know exactly what this is. The smallest member of our entourage is from the 2019 (I think) Advent Calendar. Point is, unless you redefine the size of a minifig, the sizes of these vehicles are so wildly different it’d be impossible to really talk about scale LEGO models.

That’s just a small piece of it, too, there are shuttles, smaller cargo vessels, ground vehicles and equipment, and not to mention to the hundreds, probably thousands, of staff, passengers, troops, and auxiliary military personnel. But then put a TIE Fighter next to a ~$150 Star Destroyer that might comfortably hold 6 to 10 minifigs….canonically a Star Destroyer carries a contingent of like 72 TIE Fighters. The closest things “to scale” would probably be those $60 – $90 TIE Fighters and maybe X-Wings that would probably be considered close to scale based on a minifig being a 6′ tall human being. Yeah, some of it is left up to your imagination, but these super-teeny versions aren’t abstractions at all, and if you’re at all familiar with the ship, you’ll probably recognize it 90-95% of the time.Īnd lastly you’ve got the “full sized” versions, though I hesitate to use that term because there comes a point where “scale” really doesn’t mean anything. These are some of the most impressive to me, simply because – usually – an extreme level of detail is conveyed with very little in the way of parts. We also have the “polybags,” usually reflective of a larger model of the same ship/vehicle within a wave or two, and many of these are labeled “mini’s.” And let us not forget the uber-tiny, absolutely minimalist versions included in the Advent Calendars. There’s a series known as MicroFighters, where the proportions are somewhat exaggerated and normalized…it’s kind of like every ship (or sometimes mount) is scaled down to the size of a bumper car and the figure is more or less “on” the vehicle rather than “inside” of it. There isn’t a real system to it, though there are some patterns. The fact that LEGO produces the same models in various different sizes has intrigued me ever since I noticed it.
